Giving Kitchen’s Financial Assistance program
Giving Kitchen’s financial assistance program serves food service workers in crisis. Most often, our financial assistance covers the cost of rent and utilities paid directly to the service provider(s). In order to qualify, a client must have experienced an illness, injury, death of an immediate family member (parent, grandparent, child, sibling, spouse), or a housing disaster like a flood or fire in the last six months. The food service worker must have been employed in food service at the time of crisis. We consider the following types of employers: restaurants, concessions, cafeterias, catering companies, food trucks and bars/taprooms. Food service workers can apply for assistance for up to four months after a crisis occurs. Once GK receives a completed application and employment verification, the average time to process the application is one week.
